THE WIG FEVER SERIES

Wigs are like the new holy grail now!!! I mean , I hardly come across ladies with weave tracks sewn to their heads these days. Ever since I wore my first wig, i never went BACK!!! It was the most comfortable thing ever , the thought of getting home from work and ripping my hair off my head was everything!!! I remember vividly how i woke up at 1:42 am to take my weaves off some years ago as a result of sweat and an itchy scalp, it was a horrible experience. I used to bleed as a result of itching on my scalp and when if finally had the option of wigs, I grabbed it for dear life. Wigs are a great way of protecting your hair and scalp especially during harsh weather  conditions.

TYPES OF WIGS

There are basically two types :
  • Human hair wigs
  • Synthetic fibre wigs.

Here are some important questions to consider when buying a wig :
  • How often will it be worn?
    • If you are anything like me, one everyday would do LOLL. One a day is quite unrealistic though except you are a human hair vendor like moi *smiles*.
  • Do you sweat very often on your scalp?
  • How often the wig will be worn and how long a period in the day?
    • Some ladies wear their wigs all through the night sha for the fear of being caught looking not so attractive.... loll, if that's you, then you need a very breathable wig.
  • Do you want it to look natural on the edges and through the top ?
    • Talk about edges that slay!!!  Everywhere i turn these days i see nothing but edges .  You also need to be careful when getting full frontal wigs to avoid looking like a seagull.
Wig Styles

Over the years, we have seen various wig trends come to stay . I remember when lace wigs became popular in Nigeria few years ago, we saw all sort mostly badly laid ones  "na wa ", i guess we didn't know any better.

Lace wgs :are designed so the scalp shows through the fine lace which disappears once it is against the skin, creating a very natural hair line. These wigs are very common now but the beauty lies in how natural it looks worn.

Monofilament  based wigs

They are the most breathable, natural looking wigs.  They have a sheer flesh toned top which gives an illusion of scalp.  These are available in both synthetic & Human Hair wigs.

Wigs can either be hand made or machine made. Hand made wigs are usually more expensive due to the time used in making them. But machine made wigs tend to be neater and more precise in making and are altogether cheaper.

Red Palm Oil Can Grow Your Hair .....WHAT!!!

Good morning my neighbors! its been a minute . I have been off the scene for a very long time , all thanks to my job. Being a software developer can easily displace other hobbies in your life , bhet I refuse to displace my blogging heheheee......Any ways, my hair and I have been up to series of adventures. I discovered yet again another remedy to make your hair fab and long , drum rolll.......................................RED PALM OIL *shocked*Yes you read right. This this baby here is a miracle worker for hair growth.

WHAT IS RED PALM OIL?

It is regarded as a sacred healing food by many civilizations, including the ancient Egyptians, crude  red palm fruit oil should be regarded as one of the most nutritious edible oils in the world. This is not the same as palm kernel oil , It is derived from the fruit of the oil palm tree (Elaeis guineensis) and is referred to as "red palm oil".
NATURAL HAIR AND SKIN BENEFITS
Red palm oil is rich in vitamin E which tremendously benefits the hair by promoting cell growth of the hair follicles, resulting in  stronger hair. Vitamin E also reduces the effect of graying  and hair loss. The carotenes in red palm oil is also responsible for the growth and division of cells and will prevent the hair from becoming weak and brittle. Oilypedia says that the saturated fats and lipids make this a perfect moisturizer for our skin and hair.
Palm oil can be found in shampoos, conditioners , lotions etc, but why buy these when i can use it raw, straight from my kitchen? For the past one month, i have been rubbing palm oil on my skin at night and I and it is essentially good for removing dirt and oil form the skin and hair . I have seen some improvement in my skin tone and texture. It also contains a re-fatting agent that helps to restore our hair and skin’s natural oils that standard soaps and shampoos are known for stripping.
Palm oil is so rich that it is great for all hair types so you do not have to worry about your hair type , just enjoy this free gift. It is essentially suitable for  dryness, hair loss, or scalp ailments. You can experiment and try out your own red palm oil recipies, follow the link and be great , loll  Fred Fro's DIY Deep Conditioner recipe.
I drop my golden pen here , try this out and thank me later.. cheers xoxo...

SOLUTION TO DRY ITCHY SCALP

Lately , my scalp has become so dry and itchy even after shampooing , steaming and deep conditioning . I tried all I knew but to no avail , until recently when I stumbled into an article on how to cure dry itchy scalp.

Here are the top 10 remedies for itchy scalp
1. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil, with its powerful natural anti fungal, anti-inflammation and antibacterial properties, can be used to treat itchy scalp. You can use tea tree oil in various ways, for instance:
  • You can add 10 to 20 drops of tea tree oil to one-half cup of baby shampoo and use it daily until the condition of your scalp improves.
  • Another option is to dilute two or three drops of tea tree oil in one tablespoon of vegetable oil and massage the mixture onto your scalp. With regular use, this remedy will heal a dry, itchy scalp within a week or two.
2. Lemon Juice
  • You can simply apply fresh lemon juice thoroughly on the scalp. Leave it on for five minutes and then shampoo your hair. If you do not have dandruff, dilute the lemon juice in water.
  • Alternately, you can mix lemon juice with yogurt and apply it on your scalp for a few minutes before washing your hair with a mild shampoo. Repeat at least daily until itchiness and dryness disappears.
3. Baking Soda
  • Make a paste with baking soda and water and apply it directly onto your scalp. For best results, rub some olive oil on your scalp before applying the baking soda paste.
  • Allow it to soak into your scalp for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse well with water.
4. Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Rinse your hair and scalp with water and allow it to dry.
  • Mix equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and water and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Apply this mixture directly onto your scalp with the help of cotton balls. Spray it on your scalp.
  • After few minutes, shampoo with normal water.
5. Aloe Vera
  • Spread some fresh aloe vera gel onto your scalp using your fingers.
  • Allow it to sit for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash your hair with a mild shampoo.
6. Coconut Oil
  • Rub a little coconut oil onto the scalp after washing your hair your scalp when it is clean. Leave it on for at least half an hour and then wash it out with a perfume-free shampoo. Follow this simple remedy three times a week.
  • Another option is to gently heat coconut oil so that it melts, add it to your shampoo before washing your hair.
7. Bananas
  • Simply mash two bananas and mix them together with one ripe avocado.
  • Apply this mixture to your scalp (and your hair if you want).
  • Allow it to sit for half an hour and then rinse thoroughly.
8. Sesame Seed Oil
  • Heat some sesame oil to warm it slightly.
  • Massage your scalp with the warm oil before going to bed each night. For best results, massage the scalp with your fingertips for at least 10 minutes, wrap your head in a hot towel and leave it on for about 10 minutes before going to bed. When this oil remains on the scalp all night, it provides optimum moisturizing.
  • Shampoo and rinse your scalp and hair thoroughly in the morning. Continue this treatment as long as necessary.

9. Witch Hazel
  • Mix one part witch hazel with two parts water.
  • Pour the mixture onto your scalp and massage thoroughly. Let it sit for a few minutes.
  • Wash and rinse your hair and scalp thoroughly.
10. Jojoba Oil
  • Massage a small amount of jojoba oil onto your scalp for a few minutes before going to bed. Leave it on overnight.
  • In the morning, wash your hair with a mild shampoo.

Witch Hazel is a natural astringent that can help relieve itchy scalp. This herb is beneficial when you have an itchy scalp due to hair coloring and daily blow drying.
Jojoba oil is a great natural moisturizing treatment to relieve a dry and itchy scalp. The molecular structure of jojoba oil is closest to that of our own natural oil or sebum, which makes it a very effective rejuvenating and hydrating treatment.
Repeat this remedy once a week.
For best results with any of these remedies, follow them without fail for some time to completely treat the problem.

COCONUT MILK: FOR GLOWING SKIN,PREVENTS PREMATURE AGING, TAMES FRIZZY HAIR! WORD!

Last week I tried making coconut oil but ended up discovering something fantastic and exciting, COCONUT MILK....I only knew about the wonders of coconut oil but never heard about coconut milk.

Dr. Rahul Nagar, says, “Because of its excellent moisturizing properties, coconut milk can be used as a scalp tonic for dry, itchy and irritated scalp. A gentle massage for 5 minutes with home-made coconut milk followed by a hot towel can have a good nourishing effect”. This is particularly beneficial for restoring dry, damaged and brittle hair, as well as split ends.

WHAT IS COCONUT MILK

Coconut milk is the creamy part that is extracted during coconut oil manufacturing process.
Traditionally, coconut milk is acquired through the grating of the white inner flesh of a brown coconut, and mixing the resulting substance with a small amount of water to suspend the fat present in the grated meat. Alternatively, you can chop the coconut in bits and blend wit coconut water.

Several grades of coconut milk exist: from 'thick' at 20-22% fat to 'thin' at 5-7%. Thick milk is prepared by directly squeezing grated coconut meat through cheesecloth(or a clean handkerchief). The squeezed coconut meat is then soaked in water and squeezed further to produce thin coconut milk.

HOW TO USE COCONUT MILK FOR HAIR

Deep Conditioning with Coconut Milk:
  • Take 4 table spoons of coconut milk and add honey and hair oil(any oil of your choice) to it. For hair oil you may use olive oil or castor oil.
  • Mix all of them and heat the mixture for about 2 minutes.
  • Wear a plastic cap(shower cap) and leave it for an hour.
  • After the stipulated time, wash with a mild shampoo.

Apply coconut milk for hair growth?

  • First detangle your hair properly.
  • Then take a cotton ball and dip it into the milk. Cotton is going to ease up the whole application process.
  • Apply the milk on your scalp, hair and tips. After this, use your fingers to massage your scalp. Scalp massage is good for blood circulation and hair growth.
  • Then tie up your hairs and cover them with a hair cap. It’s going to naturally heat up your hair and also prevent the milk from leakage.
  • Leave your hair for 4-5 hours, so that the milk enters the root of the hair. I do 1 hour, i cannot wait that long.
  • Shampoo .
  • After shampooing, condition your hair.

Baldness treatment by coconut milk:

  • If you are facing baldness then by adding some other organic compounds in coconut milk, you can cure your baldness.
  • Take about 50 ml of coconut milk and mix it with 10 ml of plain yoghurt.
  • Now add a little quantity of camphor solution to the mix.
  • Massage this mixture on scalp. And while massaging, make sure that you are not missing out the bald spots.
  • Leave your hair for 1-2 hours and then rinse it with warm water.
  • Let your hair air-dry instead of using hair dryer.

COCONUT MILK FOR SKIN CARE

Coconut Milk for Face/Makeup Remover

  • To remove your makeup, add 2 parts of olive oil to 1 part coconut milk on a cotton pad. This not only cleanses your face, but nourishes your skin deeply at the same time as well. Note: Rub gently.

 Prevents Acne

  • Dr. Rahul Nagar, Max Hospitals  says, “For people with oily and acne prone skin, coconut milk can be used as a cleanser due to its antibacterial properties. The fats in coconut milk do not clog pores, thereby preventing acne”.

 Facial Scrub

 Prevents Premature Ageing

  • Coconut milk has high levels of Vitamin C which helps maintain elasticity and flexibility of skin. It is also rich in copper, and prevents wrinkles, sagging skin and age spots. You can soak 6-7 almonds overnight, and peel their skins off in the morning, grind into a smooth paste and add 5-6 drops of coconut milk. Mix well and apply this paste on your face for 15 minutes, and wash it off with cold water.

 Treats Sunburns

  • According to Dr. Rahul, “Application of coconut milk over sunburnt skin aids in rapid healing because of its anti-inflammatory properties. It helps by cooling the skin and reducing pain, swelling and redness”.

 Moisturizes The Skin

  • We’ve all heard of taking a milk bath, right? Well, it’s time to use coconut milk instead. It is a great moisturiser due its soothing properties. You can rub coconut milk on your skin directly for 20-30 minutes to combat dryness and promote healthy glowing skin. You can even add 1 cup of rose petals, ½ cup of rose water and 1 cup of coconut milk to lukewarm water in a tub. Soaking in this bath for about 15 minutes will help restore moisture in dry skin. Also, you can grind 1/2 cup of old fashioned oatmeal and mix it with 1-2 cups of coconut milk and 1 tablespoon of honey. It works wonders!

I tried coconut milk on my skin for one week, it works like magic, all my blemishes are clearing rapidly. Try it out and let us know how it worked for you. Leave your comments below.

COCONUT OIL HEALS WRINKLES AND HAIR CURTICLES.....HERE IS HOW

As we become more and more aware of our natural remedies we should also not forget that there is also a huge possibility of buying FAKE and adulterated products. Coconut oil is one of the mostly used natural oils by naturalisters . Pure coconut is difficult to come by and even the ones that claim to be pure are very expensive. I bought a small bottle of "PURE" coconut oil for 1500 naira and a month later, the stench was so unbearable, the colour turned dirty brown and urghhh...... SO how can someone get pure coconut oil in Nigeria ? Everyone claim to make the purest. I thought the stench and dirty brown coloring was normal  until my Mother made some at home. Pure coconut oil has a sweet coconut smell and light golden color.... it was different from all the so called pure oils i bought in the past. Here are some few tips on how to recognize pure coconut oil. Pure coconut oil heals the skin i can tell you that for sure, no need for chemicals indeed God has given us everything we need.

What is Pure Coconut Oil?

Theoretically and ideally, pure coconut oil is pure, natural, unadulterated coconut oil that is free from herbal extracts and artificial or synthetic flavors, colors, medicines, or any other chemical additives. It may or may not be refined, but it must not be bleached nor deodorized, as these two processes involve chemical treatments.

How Can You Identify Pure Coconut Oil?

Here I must admit that there is hardly anyone who can distinguish pure coconut oil from an adulterated one just by their appearances. The reasons for this are obvious, since they look exactly the same. However, that still leaves two more of your senses, the tongue and the nose. Coconut Oil has its own characteristic smell. Smell it and if you find anything but that signature coconut scent, you can be sure that it is not pure.
Regarding the taste, there are two cases to consider. If the pure coconut oil is not refined, then it may have some taste of coconut left in it due to the presence of some bigger colloidal particles that still remain in it. On the contrary, refined pure coconut oil should be tasteless. There is of course one more way to tell the difference, which is to trust the certificate that the company furnishes that claims that it is pure coconut oil. Therefore, it is always safest to go for the reputable and trusted brands.

Benefits of Pure Coconut Oil

A great deal has been said and written about the benefits of this oil, and we will summarize them below.
Health Benefits
It lowers bad cholesterol levels, raises good cholesterol levels, is good for the heart, fights infections, takes care of the skin, it reduces and clears wrinkles ladies!!! yep! I am currently using it and i have seen some changes, so for youthful look , this oil is your friend, and is very good for your hair.
Other Benefits
Being a very stable oil, it does not spoil or break down easily by heat, enzymes, or microbial action.
That is why it does not go rancid easily. It is used less in cooking and is therefore rather inexpensive.
How about some fish fried in coconut oil this evening? Not a bad idea!

What Types of Adulterations Are Commonly Used?

Common adulterations that are used in coconut oil are other cheaper vegetable oils, as well as natural or synthetic flavoring agents.
