How to wash your natural hair with ease...

Truth be told , washing natural hair is not the favorite item on anyone’s to do list at allllllllllll..... It’s a daunting and stressful task. When your hair is in the early growth phase , washing isn't much of a chore but as it grows, it gets harder.  At different lengths of my hair, I have learned to adjust my hair washing regimen to better meet the needs of my hair.

Pre-Pooing

Pre-poo to reduce the drying effects of the shampoo process. To pre-poo, you can spritz your hair with water then add your conditioner or oil of choice.  I use coconut oil because it is very light and readily available .Alternatively, deep condition  prior to washing so that you don’t have to hop back in the shower after washing .I tried this a while ago and i loved the result, more so, i didn't need to hop back into the bathroom to deep condition my hair(*lazy* hehe).

Wash Hair in Sections

I call this the “Divide and conquer” method. When my hair was shorter, washing my hair as a whole was just fine ,but as my hair has grown longer, "i no fit try am"...  I personally, braid my hair in four sections and then unravel  each braid to wash that section and life has been much easier *smiles* . I also use less products because now I just apply the quantity i need to each section .Some people choose to wash their hair in large twists or braids , when washing your hair this way, the key is to leave the roots loose so you can scrub your scalp properly. This  is the key to natural hair care — otherwise it becomes overwhelming.

Don’t Scrub

DON’T scrub your hair unless you want a head full of tangles. Instead, scrub your scalp and let the shampoo run  down the hair shaft.I remember when my hair was still relaxed , I would scrub it  in a circular motion but not anymore. The main focus of your wash should be to scrub all the surface dirt off your scalp because a clogged scalp spells stunted growth . Don't worry , the shampoo will run down the hair shaft and clean the hair.
The key to washing your natural hair is adopting a method well suited for your hair length and to reduce tangling as much as possible.....
Try one method and let us know what you think....Please leave comments in the comments box.

My hair butters and me

Every naturalister I know thinks that Shea butter is the holy grail of natural hair. It seems to be the all-in- all of natural hair. Yes it is actually very good for natural hair but there are suitable conditions under which  it should be applied. Have you ever applied Shea butter on your hair and it stays just on top? never absorbs ! Yes I have and I vowed never to apply it to my hair again. Most times it melts and drips down my hair like annointing lolllllll......na wa . Just like most of you out there, I didn't know any better, i thought daily moisturizing with Shea butter was the answer to my brittle and frizzy hair but  sometimes it gave my hair even more frizz when applied to dry .....

Shea butter is heavy and not ideal as an everyday pomade or hair cream. Here are some tips on how to use Shea butter and other hair butters......

Natural hair night routine.

How many of you know that there are ways to protect your natural hair before going to bed? Dont be shy I didn't know that until two years ago. I hear a lot of naturalisters complain about frizzy and dry hair , trust me there's  hardly anything I haven't seen, my hair has been through the furnace and back but ALAS! it came out refined whoa!

Your hair like every other thing dear to you need proper TLC , yep....you just don't sleep any how.
Right before we go to lala land, we should partake in some kind of hair regimen to keep our tresses healthy and luxurious. Either way, you need to have one, especially if you want to maintain your twist out or braid out for a couple of days. Here are five tips that can aid in your night time routine :
Spritz
Estimated Time: 2 minutes
Frequency: Every couple of days
Spritzing your ends and your scalp with water is very important because it helps to hydrate your hair. Keep your floral water in the refrigerator and then add to a spray bottle when you want to use it. I like to add coconut oil to my spray bottle and so far so good it has been very good.
Twisting
Estimated Time: 10mins
Frequency: Can leave in for up to two or three weeks, and retwist.
This is my go to style. I do this practically every night before I go to bed, oh yes I do ooo the hustle is very real . This has helped me retain my length and made my hair softer. I twist my hair in large chunks.
Bring Out the Satin
Estimated Time: 30 seconds
Frequency: Always!
It should go without saying that your hair should never come in direct contact with a cotton pillowcase at night. Remember, cotton fibers absorb the natural oils found in your hair, which may result in dryness or breakage.  Keep your strands protected by tying your hair up with a satin scarf, covering it with a satin bonnet, or sleeping on a satin pillowcase.  Of all these tips, this one is not optional!
This  might sound like a lot, I don come with my wahala again abi ? Well it worked and still working for me and I promise you that giving your hair a little TLC before you go to lala land.

(ii) Mash the avocado until it forms a smooth paste without any lumps. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, and blend them all together, until the mixture forms a smooth paste of uniform consistency.
(iii) Damp your hair with water, and apply the mask onto your hair, paying extra attention to the hair ends. Clip your hair onto the top of your head, and then cover with a shower cap. Allow the mixture to sit for about 40-45 minutes.
(iii)Rinse your hair thoroughly as many times it requires removing the mask entirely, and then wash and condition your hair as you normally do.

Or you can whisk the egg yolk until it forms a frothy liquid, mash the avocado until it turns into a lump-free paste, and then mix the two together.
(ii) Damp your hair with water, and then apply the hair mask with your fingers starting from your scalp and working all the way until you reach hair ends. Massage the mask gently into your scalp for few minutes to stimulate blood flow. Let the mask sit for about 15-20 minutes, I stay longer .....
(iii) Rinse your hair thoroughly, as many times as needed to remove all the traces of the mask. Shampoo your hair, condition and rinse your hair as you normally do.
Finegeh Beauty Tip: When using any mask containing egg, never use hot or warm water on your hair(except you want to make an omelette on your head lollll), as this will cook the egg and you will be stuck with egg bits in your hair.

You can use this mix as avocado deep hair conditioner to moisturize your mane and restore its lustrous shine. Both these ingredients have moisturizing qualities and will leave your hair looking shiny and feeling soft. Avocado has biotin, a vitamin that helps to strengthen your hair. Olive oil smooths frizz, nurses hair damage and helps in removing tangles.

Method:
(i) Take 1 ripe avocado, 1/4 cup of steel-cut or rolled oats, 1/8 to 1/4 cup of olive oil and 1 cup of milk. Mash the avocado into a lump-free paste and mix it with 1/4 cup of oats. Add in 1/8 to 1/4 cup of olive oil, depending upon the extent of dryness of your hair. Mix in 1 cup of milk and stir thoroughly all the ingredients together, until the mixtue turns into a smooth paste.
(ii) Apply the mask onto your hair, starting from the scalp till the ends. Sit for 30 minutes, and rinse the mask out with water, as many times as needed to remove all traces of the mask. You may then shampoo and condition your hair as usual.

my hair is way too tough to manage HELP!!!

Is this you? No shame in admitting because this used to be me , yep. I cried for months from combing my hair, combs broke in my hair, I tried everything and almost gave up! One merry day I discovered the secret to softer and more manageable hair! Are you interested? Read on.......

HOW TO MAKE YOUR NATURAL HAIR SOFTER

source The natural haven
  1. Always have your hair in a protective style before going to bed or else your hair will be stiff and shrink beyond recognition in the morning . You can do  two way twist or three way braid(calabar).
  2. Deep condition more often. Constant deep conditioning makes the hair softer and loosens up the coils.
  3. Always apply a leave in conditioner . Leave in conditioners makes your hair soft instantly! Yes it works like magic...so you should invest in a very good leave in conditioner. Ensure to buy water based leave in conditioners, this keeps the hair hydrated.
  4. Apply shea butter, popularly known as "ori"...I use this mostly when I am braiding my hair, my stylist applies it to my hair before cutting it in portions to braid. Combing my hair without shea butter brings me to tears no jokes...
African shea butter

Really being natural is not as difficult as people make it seem. Anything you are ignorant about will always be difficult . Take it one day at a time ...
