MORINGA FOR HAIR AND GLOWING SKIN : MY LATEST HAIR ADVENTURE

I love experimenting with my hair and trying out new things .  Lately. I decided to go on a weight loss program which includes detoxification and working out like hell. My trainer advised me to take MORINGA seed but I found MORINGA leaf instead . For the first one week I took it , my skin appeared brighter , no jokes guys I was glowing . Then my hair had this lustre I had never seen before and overall I felt lighter .
Out of curiosity, I did a little research on this gift of nature MORINGA and I was beyond wowed!!!!!
Moringa leaves are a rich source of many nutrients like Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Vitamin E. In fact, they have many more vitamins than the richest sources such as carrots, oranges and milk. They can be cooked and eaten in many ways.

YOU DON'T NEED TO BREAK THE BANK TO BE NATURAL

People always ask me how much I spend on my natural hair and my answers always remain the same " NEXT TO NOTHING" yes ! , that wasn't a typo....

I have been natural for four years and all through I watched my hair evolve, I tried all sorts on it and today   I am glad I took those risks. During my tee nee wee nee hair days, I would spend roughly , twenty thousand naira buying the same products in different brands loll.......... Chai! "Dem chop my money Sha".... I used almost everything in the market  , I know some of you can relate.

My big break came when I discovered my natural remedies and voila my hair became a wonder!😁😎.

KNOW YOUR HAIR TYPE (NO BE JOKE O!)

I cannot over emphasize this enough. What works for hair A may not work for hair B. For some people honey makes their hair crunchy for others No. Read about hair types here.

DO NOT BE ADDICTED TO YOUTUBE VIDEOS ON NATURAL HAIR

I love YouTube! As a matter of fact I learn a while lot from it, but I discovered that the hair types are different from ours here in Nigeria. A 4c hair in the US is different from a 4c hair in Nigeria and the reason for this is not far fetched. "WEATHER" . Their weather is not as harsh as ours and this leads to dryness ,in fact over dryness.  Have you ever watched a video on twist outs? Their  curls are more defined and shiny . My hair is one of the most healthy I have seen but my twist outs do not appear as perfect as the ones on YouTube. This made me somewhat dissatisfied, I thought I was doing something wrong , until I had to face the harsh reality " our weather conditions are different😫😕😖". Here's what you can do to keep your hair hydrated :

  1. Drink lots of water
  2. Steam at least once a week to retain moisture . Read more about steaming here .
  3. Maximum hydration . Read more here .
  4. Do the baggy method . Read more here .
List of natural hair masks you can make from your kitchen :
  1. Avocado hair mask for growth , strength and volume .
  2. Banana hair mask for shiny hair
  3. Honey and olive oil hair mask for strength etc
These are the ones I have tried and worked for me. I am still using them till date ...

DO NOT BE CARRIED WAY BY LENGTH

I have seen so many long and unhealthy natural hair. Some people are more concerned about their length than the actual well-being of their hair. Do not get me wrong , length is very good as a matter of fact it is an evidence that your hair is healthy but in some cases , your hair may be lengthy yet weak and dry. On the other hand , your hair may not be as long as you would expect yet it has some body and shine. There was a time when my hair was long but I knew there was something wrong , it felt dry and flaky , looked dull and thirsty. When I focused more  on the well-being of my hair than length alone, the length came naturally . I was no longer bothered about how long my hair was rather more focused on having healthy tresses .

I am pretty sure you can notice my highlight😜😏😎😉, I shall talk more on the topic in my next post.... Xoxo

You can have a health natural hair with products made from your kitchen.....😎

12 tips on how to transition to natural hair

As we all know , natural hair is the latest trend among women of color all over the world. Yep from the UK to the US and her in mother Africa, bet trust Naija babaes lollll all roads lead to due hair... natural hair tins. Transitioning  from relaxed hair into natural hair is tough - odd curly bits, split ends and endless breakage and maintaining a healthy hair whilst transitioning is another issue entirely. While some people can swear that their hair can break a rake others
are having a smooth ride through transitioning. There are several tips on how to transition to natural hair with ease. Gosh I wish I knew this four years ago *sad face*.

What do I do during transitioning?

  • Keep your hair hydrated. The biggest struggle with transitioning your hair is preventing breakage due to damage and dryness. Use a water based leave-in conditioner on a daily basis. Every evening before bed, thoroughly incorporate either coconut oil or olive oil into your hair and let is soak for 30 minutes to an hour. This will help replenish your hair with moisture and nutrients that will strengthen the demarcation line (the part of the hair where the transition is occurring).
  • When you wash your hair, add a little conditioner to your strands prior to shampooing. This will help to keep the shampoo from stripping all the moisture. Then, condition as  usual.
  • Consider using a leave-in conditioner for your hair during the day. Apply some to your hair before you style it, paying careful attention to the demarcation line.
  • Use a deep conditioner regularly. Deep conditioning treatments take adding moisture to a new level. Although they are typically only used once a month or so, transitioning hair needs extra conditioning and can handle the treatments more frequently.
  • Stay away from heat. In general, hot tools should be avoided if you’re trying to protect your hair. Using curling irons, flat irons, and blow driers can stress your hair and cause breakage. While transitioning your hair, do all that you can to allow it to be as natural as possible.
  • If you absolutely must use hot tools, keep them away from the demarcation line and avoid using them on your roots where your natural grow-out is forming. Remember to use a hear protect-ant.
  • Limit your hair washings. This goes hand in hand with adding moisture to your hair; washing your hair frequently strips your strands of the natural oil that helps to keep it strong. Wash your hair as little as you can, using plenty of conditioner when you do. If you’re able, wash your hair once every 7-8 days so that there is plenty of time for your natural oils to thoroughly coat each strand of hair.[1]
  • Give yourself a hot oil massage. Waiting for your hair to grow out is often the most frustrating part of the growing-process. Rather than waiting idly by, you can promote new hair growth by giving yourself frequent scalp massages. Use a bit of oil (coconut, olive, avocado, etc.) warmed slightly to massage your scalp. This will stimulate the hair follicles and help the strands to grow a bit faster. Hot oil massages can be done as frequently as you would like, but should be done at least once a week for the best results.[2]
  • Avoid adding chemicals to your hair. Although it may seem like a given, you should be avoiding all relaxers and perms when trying to transition your hair. In addition, stay away from hair dyes  as these cause significant damage to your hair, causing it to break and become frizzy.

Styling with perm rods

Being natural is not a sentence to a life time of AFRO.We can also rock perms and curls like people with non kinky hair type. the trick is to find the right perm rode size suitable for your length and you are good to go....

Perm rods come in different shapes and sizes.

Each color code represents a different curl pattern. The best way to curl your hair is to use water and a fast drying mouse to retain your curls. I use lotta body fast drying mouse for natural hair . Especially if your hair is 4c, you do not need to add lots of products when curling your hair. Oil is a big no-no if you need it to dry fast.

So stop boring updo's and add some curls to your hair, you can experiment with different sizes and see what works for you.

Orange
The orange rods create large buoyant curls. Instagram beauty, @Naturallyjael, nailed it with her rod set using orange rods. She started on blown out hair and used 60 rods to create her curls. I don’t think her curls could have been any more awesome! source www.blackgirllonghair.com

White
White perm rods are very popular amongst natural ladies that have medium length hair. This is probably because the curl that the rod creates isn’t too small, but isn’t too large either. This natural young lady below is wearing a funky rod set. Her red tipped hair really makes the curls pop.www.blackgirllonghair.com

Gray perm rods seem to create the perfect curl. They are great for women who are between the TWA and medium length hair stage. If your hair is shorter, the curl will be a bit looser. YouTuber Kadijah Nicole used mostly gray perm rods with a few pink ones for this look. She has longer hair; therefore her curls came out tight and bouncy. source www.blackgirllonghair.com

Purple and Black
Black jumbo rods are the largest of the bunch and create the most volume for your hair. If your hair isn’t super long then you will definitely have less of a curl and more of a wave. If you have very long hair like instagram cutie, @Jewejewebee, then you will have beautiful large curls with tons of volume. She started her hair on wet hair and rolled her hair with purple rods. The purple rods are twice as large as the black rodswww.blackgirllonghair.com

Green
Green perm rods create less curl and more body for your hair. If your hair is short, I wouldn’t bother using them because they would only leave your hair with a slight bend. If your hair is long and you want a lot of volume, then definitely go for it! @Amber_belovely shows off her volumous hair after using green perm rods.
