YOU DON'T NEED TO BREAK THE BANK TO BE NATURAL

People always ask me how much I spend on my natural hair and my answers always remain the same " NEXT TO NOTHING" yes ! , that wasn't a typo....

I have been natural for four years and all through I watched my hair evolve, I tried all sorts on it and today   I am glad I took those risks. During my tee nee wee nee hair days, I would spend roughly , twenty thousand naira buying the same products in different brands loll.......... Chai! "Dem chop my money Sha".... I used almost everything in the market  , I know some of you can relate.

My big break came when I discovered my natural remedies and voila my hair became a wonder!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜Ž.

KNOW YOUR HAIR TYPE (NO BE JOKE O!)

I cannot over emphasize this enough. What works for hair A may not work for hair B. For some people honey makes their hair crunchy for others No. Read about hair types here.

DO NOT BE ADDICTED TO YOUTUBE VIDEOS ON NATURAL HAIR

I love YouTube! As a matter of fact I learn a while lot from it, but I discovered that the hair types are different from ours here in Nigeria. A 4c hair in the US is different from a 4c hair in Nigeria and the reason for this is not far fetched. "WEATHER" . Their weather is not as harsh as ours and this leads to dryness ,in fact over dryness.  Have you ever watched a video on twist outs? Their  curls are more defined and shiny . My hair is one of the most healthy I have seen but my twist outs do not appear as perfect as the ones on YouTube. This made me somewhat dissatisfied, I thought I was doing something wrong , until I had to face the harsh reality " our weather conditions are different๐Ÿ˜ซ๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜–". Here's what you can do to keep your hair hydrated :

  1. Drink lots of water
  2. Steam at least once a week to retain moisture . Read more about steaming here .
  3. Maximum hydration . Read more here .
  4. Do the baggy method . Read more here .
List of natural hair masks you can make from your kitchen :
  1. Avocado hair mask for growth , strength and volume .
  2. Banana hair mask for shiny hair
  3. Honey and olive oil hair mask for strength etc
These are the ones I have tried and worked for me. I am still using them till date ...

DO NOT BE CARRIED WAY BY LENGTH

I have seen so many long and unhealthy natural hair. Some people are more concerned about their length than the actual well-being of their hair. Do not get me wrong , length is very good as a matter of fact it is an evidence that your hair is healthy but in some cases , your hair may be lengthy yet weak and dry. On the other hand , your hair may not be as long as you would expect yet it has some body and shine. There was a time when my hair was long but I knew there was something wrong , it felt dry and flaky , looked dull and thirsty. When I focused more  on the well-being of my hair than length alone, the length came naturally . I was no longer bothered about how long my hair was rather more focused on having healthy tresses .

I am pretty sure you can notice my highlight๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜‰, I shall talk more on the topic in my next post.... Xoxo

You can have a health natural hair with products made from your kitchen.....๐Ÿ˜Ž

How badly do you want long natural hair? I know i do!

Long hair, long hair, long hair... that is every lady's goal for her hair, okay ,may be nor all but majority sha. Grooming your hair to your desired length can be a daunting project, one that has no end.

ANAGEN PHASE
CATAGEN PHASE
TELOGEN PHASE

HAIR LOSS AND THINNING OCCURS WHEN YOUR HAIR GROWTH IS DISRUPTED BY E.G UNHEALTHY ACTIVITIES. THIS CAN BE TRIGGERED BY CONDITIONS SUCH AS METABOLIC IMBALANCES, ILLNESS OR IMPROPER NUTRITION.
FOR INSTANCE, 6 WEEKS AFTER RESTRICTIVE DIETING OR A HIGH FEVER YOU CAN EXPERIENCE TELOGEN EFFLUVIUM (DIFFUSE HAIR FALL). THIS OCCURS WHEN YOUR ANAGEN PHASE IS CUT SHORT AND MANY HAIRS ENTER THE TELOGEN PHASE ALL AT THE SAME TIME. IF YOUR HAIR GROWTH CYCLE IS CONSTANTLY CHALLENGED, OR NOT SUPPORTED, YOU MAY FIND THAT YOUR HAIR WON’T GROW AS LONG AS IT USED TO. THIS IS BECAUSE YOUR HAIRS ARE NEVER ALLOWED TO STAY IN THE ANAGEN (GROWING) PHASE LONG ENOUGH FOR YOUR HAIRS TO REACH THE DESIRED LENGTH. SOURCE.
It’s very important to understand the hair growth cycle in order to recognize and understand many of the problems you can encounter with your hair. The hair growth cycle consists of three distinct stages – anagen, catagen and telogen.
Your hair grows around half an inch a month, and faster in mid year season than in dry season. The growth phase, , lasts an average of 3-5 years.A full-length hair averages 18 to 30 inches. The anagen phase is generally longer in Asians,  and can last as much as 7 years with hair being able to grow to 1 metre,  but as africans, our hair growth rate is relatively slow due to the texture and nature of our hair.
At the end of the anagen phase, your hair enters the catagen phase. A short transitional phase that lasts approximately 10 days.
Lastly, your hair enters the telogen phase, a resting phase when your hair is released and falls out. At this point ,not significant growth occurs , the your hair growth appears stunted. The follicle then remains inactive for 3 months and the whole process from anagen phase is repeated. Each hair follicle is independent and goes through the growth cycle at different times, otherwise all your hair would fall out at once, hence that explains why some parts of your hair grows faster than the other .

For natural hair growth, we need a lot of patience ...................trust me i know! *wink*

My hair butters and me

Every naturalister I know thinks that Shea butter is the holy grail of natural hair. It seems to be the all-in- all of natural hair. Yes it is actually very good for natural hair but there are suitable conditions under which  it should be applied. Have you ever applied Shea butter on your hair and it stays just on top? never absorbs ! Yes I have and I vowed never to apply it to my hair again. Most times it melts and drips down my hair like annointing lolllllll......na wa . Just like most of you out there, I didn't know any better, i thought daily moisturizing with Shea butter was the answer to my brittle and frizzy hair but  sometimes it gave my hair even more frizz when applied to dry .....

Shea butter is heavy and not ideal as an everyday pomade or hair cream. Here are some tips on how to use Shea butter and other hair butters......

It’s also known for its usefulness to repair scalp damage, which is one of the main causes of hair loss.

How To Make Avocado Hair Mask

Here are the best avocado treatments for hair:
(1) Avocado And Honey Hair Mask With Olive Oil: Honey is a rich source of vitamins that strengthen scalp and hair. Further it works as a humectant to make your hair strands retain moisture. Olive oil has excellent hydrating properties, so it protects your tresses from damage and very useful for those who use lots of heat on their hair usually. You can also add in a few drops of lavender essential oil, which is a natural treatment for scalp that helps get rid of dandruff and itchy skin. Moreover, it adds a feel good smell to the mask. It’s one of the best hair masks for dry hair!!

Method:
(i) Take 1 ripe avocado ( scooped out), 1 tablespoons of honey, 1 tablespoons of olive oil and couple of drops of lavender essential oil (optional).
(ii) Mash the avocado until it forms a smooth paste without any lumps. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, and blend them all together, until the mixture forms a smooth paste of uniform consistency.
(iii) Damp your hair with water, and apply the mask onto your hair, paying extra attention to the hair ends. Clip your hair onto the top of your head, and then cover with a shower cap. Allow the mixture to sit for about 40-45 minutes.
(iii)Rinse your hair thoroughly as many times it requires removing the mask entirely, and then wash and condition your hair as you normally do.
(2) Avocado And Banana Hair Mask – Deep Conditioning Treatment For Dry Hair: This recipe can even maintain your naturally curly hair glossy.

Method:
(i) Take 1 ripe banana, 1 ripe avocado, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and a few drops of your favorite essential oil, such as lavender, rose, sweet orange or jasmine.
(ii) Blend the ripe banana and ripe avocado together, until they form a smooth paste without any lumps. Put the mixture in a mixing bowl; add in olive oil and 2-3 drops of essential oil. Stir all the ingredients together until you have a smooth mixture of uniform consistency.
(iii) Damp your hair with water, and apply the mask onto hair – including scalp if you want, paying extra attention to the hair ends. Massage the mixture a little bit. Clip your hair onto the top of your head, and then cover with a shower cap. Allow the mixture to sit for about 15 minutes, longer if you prefer.
Rinse your hair thoroughly as many times it requires removing the mask entirely and then wash and condition your hair as usual.
(3) Avocado, Egg Yolk Hair Mask: This mask has number of benefits for hair. Use this mask for volume, growth and conditioning of your tresses. Avocado and egg yolk are also very effective for softening, hydrating and conditioning hair naturally.

Method:
(i) Take 1/2 ripe avocado, 1 egg yolk. You can use a blender to blend the avocado and egg yolk, until they turn into a uniform paste without any lumps. Or you can whisk the egg yolk until it forms a frothy liquid, mash the avocado until it turns into a lump-free paste, and then mix the two together.
(ii) Damp your hair with water, and then apply the hair mask with your fingers starting from your scalp and working all the way until you reach hair ends. Massage the mask gently into your scalp for few minutes to stimulate blood flow. Let the mask sit for about 15-20 minutes, I stay longer .....
(iii) Rinse your hair thoroughly, as many times as needed to remove all the traces of the mask. Shampoo your hair, condition and rinse your hair as you normally do.
Finegeh Beauty Tip: When using any mask containing egg, never use hot or warm water on your hair(except you want to make an omelette on your head lollll), as this will cook the egg and you will be stuck with egg bits in your hair.
(4) Avocado And Olive Oil Hair Treatment
If your hair is dry, damaged and frizzy, use this soothing home remedy with olive oil and avocado as two ingredients. You can use this mix as avocado deep hair conditioner to moisturize your mane and restore its lustrous shine. Both these ingredients have moisturizing qualities and will leave your hair looking shiny and feeling soft. Avocado has biotin, a vitamin that helps to strengthen your hair. Olive oil smooths frizz, nurses hair damage and helps in removing tangles.

Method:
(i) Take 1 ripe avocado, 1/4 cup of steel-cut or rolled oats, 1/8 to 1/4 cup of olive oil and 1 cup of milk. Mash the avocado into a lump-free paste and mix it with 1/4 cup of oats. Add in 1/8 to 1/4 cup of olive oil, depending upon the extent of dryness of your hair. Mix in 1 cup of milk and stir thoroughly all the ingredients together, until the mixtue turns into a smooth paste.
(ii) Apply the mask onto your hair, starting from the scalp till the ends. Sit for 30 minutes, and rinse the mask out with water, as many times as needed to remove all traces of the mask. You may then shampoo and condition your hair as usual.
